Ifll Go to School!
Written by Mashiro Yuh

There is applause over the hall.

The oily-faced program host said loudly.

gWell, wefll go to the next section!h

Then the TV showed another scene.

gThere was a man who could not forgive corrupt students,h says the narrator, followed by a telop. The hall livens up.

A common family is watching the TV over dishes for supper.

On the TV, the section of gviolators of school regulationsh is running. From among many passers-by in the street, young ones, especially wearing absurd clothes, crazy make-ups and so on, are called to stop. One of them is a female high-school student; a type of girl called gyamambah (note: meaning a mountain hag in Japanese) who has her hair dyed white and her face colored brown with white paint around her eyes like a clown.

gShit! What an awful face!h

gDisgusting!h

The family members are giving comment after comment toward the TV.

Some youths called did not stop, and the TV male idol are calling passers-by on and on without cease till he catches an extreme punk.

gHey, man! How awful you look,h says the idol, with a disgusted expression on his face.

gWow wow!h

He is wearing a jacket with the word gpunkh, which needs mending, and a pair of pants. His untidy way of wearing exposes underwear. His tangled hair is not black, and his skin should be regarded as more dirty than dark, which makes it look as if he were a foreigner. The most amazing are accessories going down from his nose. They consist of rings, a stud, a fishing lure and a chain connecting one of his ears and his nose.

He looks so awful that the family members freeze.

gDo you think these things make you look so cool?h asks the idol, making fool of the punk.

gWow, none of your business!h

There is no keen reaction from him. He has muddy eyes, looking dull, loose and foolish.

gWell, can you let us cut your hair?h

gYep! I donft mind.h

Then the punk is led to some other place.

gOh, dear!h

gI canft believe such an idiot walks on the street!h

The two TV idols are standing on the large stage set up in a different place. It is now dark, and a number of people have got together.

gWhat a surprise he was!h

gI canft understand him.h

They talk of what he was wearing.

gNow, if you would like to see his eafterf first, raise your hand.h

Some persons raise their hands. From among the audience a girl is chosen.

gNow time has come. Open the curtain!h

The person who was a punk some minutes ago comes out to the stage backward: in a pair of schoolgirl-like black leather shoes, neat white socks, a pleated skirt 5cm lower than knee-length and pure-white blouse, and with  semi-long hair.

gOh,h there was a roar in the audience.

The family members stop handling their chopsticks.

gcc?h

The girl, with her eyes closed, is led in front of the former punk.

g3...2...1copen your eyes!h

Then she opens her eyes.

Her eyes widen in surprise.

gGee! Unbelievable (in a low tone).h

gHow do you think?h

gV-very cutech

The idols send the girl, who was still looking surprised, back to the audience.

gItfs so funnycainft it?h

gI-indeedch

gWell, itfs time to make her turn around. Are you ready, ladies and gentlemen? 5...4...3...2...1chere goes!h

The uniformed person has turned around.

There are sighs in the audience; they see a beautiful girl standing, with smiles and dimples, wearing a neat school uniform.

Many families drop their chopsticks with surprise.

gHow do you think about your makeover?h

gErrrcIfm happy,h the former punk said in a different speaking way.

The lower part of the TV screen is showing how the person used to be; a punk with a fishing lure hanging from his nose.

gW-whatfs happening?h

gHe was a man, wasnft he?h

The girl in a school uniform leaves the place, with a smiling face, waving a little.

Now the TV shows the scene at the studio again.

The oily-faced program host said in surprise, gHoly cow! What a makeover!h

All the guests sigh in wonder and agree with him.

gGee! Ifm afraid theyfre missing the point.h

After talking of the punkfs change for a while, the host stops the subject suddenly as if edited.

gThatfs through. Letfs go to the next section!h

The TV program, disregarding what all TV viewers want to know, goes on and onc

Postscript:

Hi. This is Mashiro.

As some of you may know, this is a parody on a certain section of the TV program gLetfs go to school!h which has been being broadcasted on TBS.

That is the famous section where some young passers-by, boy or girl, having awful looks, will be made to look well-groomed. Ifm really surprised that they are so changed.

The most interesting is to see pairs of schoolboys and schoolgirls, looking somewhat delinquent, turn to the honor student type. It is amazing fun to see both of them check how the partner has changed, led by the section host who tells gface to faceh. I was so impressed with a girl who proved to be very attractive when she removed her glasses. And removing gyamambah make-ups turned girls so cute that I can not believe their former faces. Anyway, I can say the section gives so much fun to the people who would like to see peoplefs makeovers.

One day, maybe since a pair of boy and girl was not available for the section, two boys appeared on the stage. Seeing them, I dreamed up this story (hahaha).

Having got accustomed to see a pair (a boy and a girl) find new attractions in each other and leave the stage friendly hand in hand, I expected to see something queer when I got aware that the second was another boy, but naturally in vain. That would be very interesting, but we had better leave it to some other program (gahahaha).

At the same time, donft you think it nonsense to see boys gface to faceh? Then why donft you imagine Kayo-chan speaking to the TV program stuff?

Now itfs time to say goodbye.
